Women of Color Collective in Sustainability is Hosting a Q&A Sustainability Spotlight Discussion with a special guest, Akilah Stewart.

Akila is the Founder and designer of FATRA. The brand was originally created in Honolulu, Hawaii and has had the pleasure of being internationally recognized.

FATRA, meaning "trash" in haitian-creole, is a small creative waste management startup. Its focused on educating communities on plastic pollution and excess textile usage through innovative fashion design. FATRA creates luxury handbags from recycled plastic bottle bags, made with one time use plastics and dead stock materials.

FATRA also conducts workshops that encourage a more circular/ less waste lifestyle. The idea is to cross-promote the conversation through academia, as well as, aesthetics. It also aims to educate our communities, alleviate our landfills/ waterways from pollution and inspire other brands to reintroduce value into wasted resources on massive.

WOC/CS' Cofounder, Jordie Vasquez, will hold an intimate conversation with Sterwart about her career path, achievements , challenges, and experience being a pioneer in the sustainability industry. Additionally, this event will kick off a series of events and initiatives highlighting various women of color working and pioneering the way in energy, environment, and sustainability. The event will serve as an opportunity to connect the WOCCS nation to build community and share resources!
